Keeping Your Savvy at Sale Time

We’ve been there, trust us. Eyeing that 70 percent markdown and convincing ourselves that, of course, our wardrobe cries out for fuschia pink hot pants with purple trim. Yeah, right. And they languish at the back of the closet until it’s chuck-out time.

We know how tempting it is.

So. . . in the spirit of the festive season, a few words of advice. First, ask yourself would you buy it if it wasn’t on sale? Next, does it go with anything in your wardrobe? Not wise to introduce a brand-new colour into the mix.

If it’s recognizably last season or last year (we’re thinking bright pink, bright lime) maybe skip it.

Safe bets usually are anything in classic denim, basic black (but you knew that) and neutrals. Fashion glossies can tell you what’s hot. Leave what’s not on the racks.

Feel free to ignore all this advice if this is your only chance to score the designer label you lust after at your kind of price. Go for it.
