Let's Get Baked

Thursday, February 8, 2007

CupcakeVancouver's already known as a city of incredible natural beauty with our mountains, forests and bodies of water. But wouldn't it be nice to be known for something just a little bit more exciting? Something that will make all the other cities incredibly jealous. Something fun. Something delicious.

Something with sprinkles.

We've got the answer: cupcakes.

We've already got quite the head start thanks to some ahead-of-their-time local entrepreneurs. Since 2002, the Cupcakes store on Denman has been serving up fluffy baked wonders that look and taste like they were ripped out of your best eating fantasies. Original creations like the Diva - a chocolate base with pink butter cream on top - and the Blue Hawaii - an edible party of vanilla cake, blue vanilla cream and coconut sprinkles - are proof of the culinary genius at work here.

Just a couple blocks down Denman, some very different cupcakes are available. Among its various food-shaped bath and body products, Open Sundaes offers cupcake-shaped bubble bath ($9) and bath oil ($4). Both come in a blend of raspberry and chocolate, enhanced to moisturize and nourish your skin. You'll feel yummy!

Hmmm, just one street and we're already on a pretty good pace for Vancouver to rise up as the cupcake capital of the world. Are you with us?

If your pooch could use some pampering then you won't want to miss this week's contest. And in yesterday's Brand New we really had a brand new bag.
