Tree Hugging

Thursday, January 25, 2007

Stanley ParkOur beloved Stanley Park is still recovering from the wind damage wrought by this winter’s storms. Thousands of trees were lost, but the cleanup has begun and the Vancouver Park Board needs your help.

People who wish to donate money to help restore the park can contribute to the newly-formed Stanley Park Tree Fund. Cheques made payable to either the Vancouver Park Board or the Stanley Park Tree Fund can be sent to 2099 Beach Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V6G 1Z4. Donations of $50 or more are tax deductible. The board also asks that you include your name, phone number and address with your donation.

For a $2,000 donation, a new tree will be dedicated to you or someone else of your choosing. Great gift for your Valentine! You'll receive a certificate and public recognition in the park. For tree donations, call 604.257.6911.

Also, the Daniel Hospitality Group is hosting a gala fundraiser on Thursday, February 8 to raise money for the park. The company, which runs the Prospect Point and Pavilion restaurants in Stanley Park, will host a five-course dinner at the Pavilion with executive chef Kris Barnholden providing the meal. Net proceeds will be donated to the Stanley Park Tree Fund. Tickets are $500 per person or $5,000 for an entire table. See www.pointgroup.ca/savestanleypark/ for more information.

Have you entered this week's contest yet? You could win 3 months of unlimited DVD rental by mail. And tomorrow in Hot Picks things get a little bit awkward. . .
