PuShing the Limits

Thursday, January 11, 2007

PuSh FestivalThe PuSh Festival started this week. That's good news for theatre fans, especially if any of these adjectives tickle your fancy: visionary, genre-bending, startling and original. Those qualities are what the organizers look for when they choose local and international pieces to include in the festival.

That's how there’s such a diverse assortment of performances. In Tim Crouch's An Oak Tree (January 24 to 27), the actor/writer is joined by a different co-actor for every performance, one who has never read the play and must improvise their entire character. Eddie Ladd dances to the movie Scarface (January 19 and 20) in her multimedia show that's part Al Pacino tribute and part experimental theatre. And elsewhere, local chanteuse Veda Hille (January 28) will unveil a set of songs commissioned especially for the festival.

That's just a taste of the breadth of work that will be on display. Make sure to check out the entire schedule at www.pushfestival.ca.

Have you checked out this week's contest yet? Award-winning Mosaic Winemakers in Yaletown is giving away a batch of 30 bottles of wine. Get all the details here.

In Hot Picks tomorrow we've got all the best accessories for your best accessory - your iPod.
