BRAND NEW [WEDNESDAY]

All Aboard

August 15, 2007

TransContinentalIf it weren’t for CP Railway planting their feet in Gastown all those decades ago, Vancouver as we know it wouldn’t exist.  And new restaurant TransContinental, located in the old CPR terminus at Waterfront station, certainly plays homage to that golden age of train travel.

Renovating a Heritage building is no easy task, but the TransContinental folks have done a great job as well as keeping a real sense of history in the space. There’s elegant art deco fixtures, gleaming Honduran mahogany, semi-circular booths and plush upholstery.

This multi-level restaurant seats more than 300 and floor-to-ceiling windows create a spacious, airy feeling.  The menu features classic dishes with a modern twist and drinks run the gamut from the ordinary to the retro, such as sidecars, gimlets and gin fizzes.

We’re putting our penny on these train tracks.
