VANCOUVER TRENDZ [THURSDAY]

Going, Going, Gone - Green

July 26, 2007

Everything's gone greenFinally! Vancouver gets to play itself. Long used as a backdrop to many U.S. television series, commercials, and indie productions, Vancouver’s variety of locations and natural setting usually stand in for an American city or the Inland Northwest, rather than showcasing our town’s unique charms.

But now - Everything’s Gone Green, due out on DVD on July 31st, is local author Douglas Coupland’s first screenplay, but likely not his last. The film, an adaptation of his novel, deals with his pet themes of multiculturalism, slackerdom and the hidden deceptions behind human relationships. Oh yes, and grow-ops, of course.

Along the way, Vancouver’s spectacular scenery and downtown glass towers are beautifully captured by cinematographer David Frazee. Canadian rock from the 60’s to today infuses the hip soundtrack. Can’t get much more local than that!
