VANCOUVER TRENDZ [THURSDAY]
New York state of mind
June 28, 2007
Did you notice yesterday's gaff? We switched systems on Tuesday night and a dud email got sent out by mistake. So if you missed your regular Wednesday Brand New, view it here.
212 Women's Wear, Gastown's newest entry in the neighbourhood's turnaround from tourist trap to high-end destination, welcomed Vancouver's bright and beautiful recently at its opening party. Owners Scott Walvohd and Anthony Castro met in New York and decided to import a little of their vision of the Big Apple to Vancouver's fashion scene. The crowd filling their 1,000-foot space on West Cordova seemed impressed. We are too.
Besides the usual smattering of fashionistas, proud moms and local celebs (CityTV's Lauren Toyota made an appearance), the clothes were the real stars of the show - merging Main St. funky and Yaletown elegance with a distinctly nautical vibe. The owners say their mission is to bring stylish, affordable clothing to Vancouver - reflecting the latest New York fashions. We say yes, please! The space is relatively small and sparingly decorated and there will undoubtedly be some fine tuning (getting it ready in time for the party was something of a minor miracle apparently) before welcoming Gastown's fashion famished though its doors. Sorry guys, just for women, right now.
