What's the point of living in the third largest film production centre in North America if you aren't going to be in one of the movies?

It's starting to get sunny again, and that means cameras are rolling. With the sheer volume of productions being shot in the Lower Mainland, it's never been easier to get yourself onscreen. And tons of talent agencies in town are just waiting to make your dreams come true. As long as those dreams consist of sitting three tables over from Christian Bale or Jessica Alba, never making eye contact with the camera and making conversation with a complete stranger for a ten-hour day.

Yes, it may not be the most romantic job ever, but being an extra - oh, excuse us - background performer is an experience we all should have at least once. All you need is some free time - two or three days available a week - and some head shots. Some agencies ask only for an email submission, some want you to call ahead and make an appointment. Whatever you do, make sure to stay professional and act appropriately. This is a job, after all. Albeit one that just may land you within flirting distance of Hollywood’s hottest.
