VANCOUVER TRENDZ [THURSDAY]

Top of the List

April 5, 2007

With the strength of their EP Red Arrows from a couple years ago, the Book of Lists made quite an impact Book of Listson the local music scene. Now, with the release of their first full-length, they're poised to climb their way to the top of the list of this city's best bands.

It's been a slow year so far for Vancouver music, after what seemed like a whirlwind of activity last year. Maybe the Book of Lists' self-titled album will mark the beginning of a comeback. It's certainly an album you'll find yourself coming back to over and over again, spelunking through its nooks and crannies to discover every hidden vista of sonic beauty.

The jangly rock sound really puts the British in British Columbia. The guitars echo and chime with a hint of old-style Brit Pop decorated with enough tough, catchy hooks to remind us that indie rock doesn't have to abandon the art of some fine, air-guitar-worthy riffery.

Download an MP3 from the album through the Scratch Records website  or check out some other tracks on the band's MySpace page. Just make sure to also, you know, buy the album. It's available at the Scratch Records store at 726 Richards Street.

Have you entered this week's Contest yet? You could win a night for two in a deluxe downtown hotel! And did you check out the environmental love in yesterday's Brand New?
