VANCOUVER TRENDZ [THURSDAY]

More Tees Please

March 22, 2007

One of the best indie labels in town has added some killer new designs to its line of awesome T-shirts. Already boasting a formidable arsenal of short-sleeved masterpieces, The Suburbia has now firmly entrenched itself as a force to be reckoned with in any upcoming fashion war.

The SuburbiaThe newest creations from the mind of designer Yulee Hong, a business student at U.B.C., feature the same zany, oddball graphics that make her work so distinctive. A guitar-playing gremlin in aviator shades, a flying Volkswagon van, and a mimosa-loving giraffe now join earlier designs like a moose-headed man and the Eiffel tower doing a pirouette.

And in more serious news, like many other local designers, Hong donates a portion of all her Suburbia sales to charity. Ten per cent of all her profits go towards the Vancouver Downtown Eastside Women's Shelter.

Buy Suburbia T-shirts online or through a growing group of hip stores like these ones:

Dream, 311 West Cordova Street (at Cambie)
Global Atomic Design, 1006 Mainland Street (at Nelson)
You and Whose Army, 929 Denman Street (at Barclay)
Ayden Gallery, 88 West Pender (in International Village)

Have you entered this week's contest yet? It's for a gift certificate for catering from Brioche, hailed as having the best pastries in Vancouver. And did you check out yesterday's Brand New, it was just a little bit spinny. . .
