It's been said before: everything old is new again. But the clever recyclers at Industrial Artifacts have found a way to make even that old saying seem fresh and, well, new.
Their furniture designs using abandoned remnants of our industrial past - tables made of factory equipment and such - have won wide acclaim. Now, their latest collection of furnishings, fixtures and accessories featuring relics salvaged from old traffic lights are the must-haves for 2007.
Dubbed the "Intersection Line," the designs range from a full traffic signal coffee table to flower holders made from the lenses of the traffic lights themselves. Our favourite is the magazine rack built with the red hand and walking man tiles from pedestrian crosswalks. Or it could be the chip bowl that uses a walking man lens in a manner that's as far away from its intended use as its designers could have ever imagined.
That's what makes shopping at Industrial Artifacts so fun. It's a wonderland of the imagination that forces you to see the world around you in a completely different way. Who knows? The next time you see that manhole cover you walk past every day, you could be eating dinner off of it next month!
