VANCOUVER TRENDZ [THURSDAY]

The Bold and the Beautiful

January 10, 2008

Oh, those Scandinavians. First the Swedes revolutionized the way we thought about furniture with IKEA. Then they brought Lower Mainlanders the joy of cheap chic with the clothing store H&M. Now the Finns have firmly entrenched themselves in Yaletown with the recent opening of Canada’s first Marimekko concept store.

Armed with a palette of bright colours, bold flowers and graphics that take their cue from the upbeat spirit of the ‘50s and ‘60s, Marimekko’s designers offer up clothing, bags, textiles and linens that are a dishy blend of contemporary, traditional, edgy and whimsical concepts.

So go on - banish the winter blahs and treat yourself to some Marimekko goodness. A little bird told us Jackie O. was a huge fan of their dresses. And if it’s good enough for Jackie, it’s good enough for us.

Marimekko is at 1233 Hamilton Street, 604-609-2881, www.marimekko.com.

If you're in the mood for a great steak  with the atmosphere to  match then take a bite out of yesterday's Brand New.

Have you entered this week's Contest yet? Win 5 tickets to see Vancouver's Mother Mother at Performance Works.
