Brand New [WEDNESDAY]

Hungry, Hombre?

Wednesday, December 28, 2005

Remember that marvellous meal you had in that small village south of Puerto Escondido?

Save yourself the plane ticket and customs hassles.

Finally, Mexican (of the authentic and affordable variety) has sauntered into town. . .

La Casita opened its doors this fall in Gastown, but the owners aren’t new to this, they’ve run a successful restaurant in Powell River for years.  Visitors to their digs over the ages used to say “you can’t get good Mexican in Vancouver.”  Finally, after years of hearing the same dang thing over and over, they’ve brought their fabulous fare to our town.

Must have’s are the ceviche on tostada as an appy—delicious marinated cod piled with fresh avocado and tomato.  Also, foreign to Vancouver, the flautas, a light potato and onion mixture inside a crispy roll topped in savoury sauce, are to die for.  Filling and delicious, burritos come with an option of chipotle and cheese.  The salsa that accompanies everything is fresh and zesty.  And some have said this is the only place in town to get a ‘real’ margarita. . .

Where else can you get a bang up meal like this—with drinks—for under $30?
