Brand New [WEDNESDAY]

Green Acres?

Wednesday, August 9, 2006

Gastown, established circa 1870, was six acres of land bound by Water, Carrall, Hastings and Cambie.

That little acreage is the inspiration behind the name of a great new spot to eat, drink and be merry.

Six Acres is nestled at the site of Gassy Jack’s original saloon, right behind his statue. They serve a tapas-style menu of share platters, cool salads, and warm open-faced sammies, in addition to a stunning collection of 36 bottled beers from around the globe.

On the food side of things, we recommend the Saigon Soba salad, the Arcadia tartine and the Magic Carpet sharing platter. And for drinks, the beer menu has excellent write ups to describe each one, but if you’re confused, just ask for Claire Hutchings, one of the owners, and she will guide you through the best beer selection in the city. Her fave? Always changing, she says, but right now it’s the St. Peter’s Organic Ale from England.

You’d be hard pressed to find a lot of these brown bevvies at the liquor store, so for all you beer lovers out there, this is where to go for good suds. Wash it all down with some tasty tapas and enjoy. Cheers.
