Brand New [WEDNESDAY]

A Certified Fake

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

F.A.K.E.Well, it may be F.A.K.E. but it’s no knockoff, and instead of funding terrorist organizations when you purchase a suspiciously cheap designer handbag, buying something F.A.K.E. is cruelty-free, sweatshop free, and environmentally friendly. But we’re not talking the wool-sock-and-sandals kind of couture you may associate with descriptions like “biodegradable”, “eco-friendly” and “perfect for vegans.” Instead, you’ll have to agree with us that local designer Jasmine Currie’s first collection is a gem - or should we say cubic zirconium?

Her capsule collection of six pieces and two accessories can go from your tote to the office and then onto a nightclub or even the beach. They’re mix-and-matchable and each piece can be worn many different ways. The Kerchief top, for example, has 12 different incarnations (and luckily her website shows you just how to pull off all those variations). F.A.K.E. is short for Freedom, Action, Kindness and Empathy, but as far as we’re concerned it stands for another star in the veritable milkyway that constitutes Vancouver’s local design scene.

You may have seen F.A.K.E. at Portobello West last Fall, but now you can find it online or in person at Twig & Hottie on Main Street.

We're slamming it tomorrow in Vancouver Trendz, and did you check out yesterday's Weekend Guide which hightlighted all things Vancouver?
